Unfinished alphabet sampler worked in cross-stitch using threads in shades of brown. Alphabet in uppercase block lettering in different motifs fills one row at top; below is an alphabet in lowercase lettering; initials "MCG", in uppercase and lowercase, fill a rectangular panel in center-left quadrant; initial "P" stitched in green appears in the center-right quadrant.
+Young girls who went to school in the 19th century were usually given instruction in decorative accomplishments, rather than academic subjects.
