A Hartford printing of Watts' A Serious Address and Advices to Children. This particular copy belonged to John Griswold (1812-1898), son of Josiah Griswold (1776-1855) and Chloe Nettleton (1781-1868). John was born in Madison, CT, and is buried in Madison's West Cemetery. A young John was probably given this little pamphlet by one of his instructors or a Sunday school teacher in the 1810's or 1820's. The author, Isaac Watts, would have been a very familiar name to young New England schoolchildren, though he is rarely taught to children today.
