Novel by William L. G. Smith that was part of the pro-slavery anti-Tom genre that grew out of international success of Stowe's Uncle Tom’s Cabin. The story introduces this book’s version of “Uncle Tom” and follows him as he is compelled by deceiving northern abolitionists to run away from the Virginia plantation where he is enslaved in the North. He ends up in Canada where he is recaptured and brought back to the Virginia plantation.
