Cap, White Cotton Organdy, Checked Weave, w/ Crochet Lace and Embroidery

circa 1850 (Date manufactured/created)
Fabric (Cotton Organdy)
A women's white cap made from highly starched cotton organdy, pulled tight to the head with internal drawstrings at the nape of the neck and the brim. The body of the cap has a check pattern woven in, and is inserted with embroidered bands, curving from the nape to the brim and encircling the crown of the head.  The gathered frill goes around the hem of the cap. It is made from plain organdy and is edged with narrow bobbin lace. Two short streamers extend from the back of the neck to tie under the chin.
